Malindi Motomoto Trip

July 9, 2011 by Club Admin 1 Comment

Where do l start because as l write this am still day dreaming and can hear the sound of the ocean just a few metres from my suite. For those that missed this trip by the end of this write up you will not like me much because you will pinch yourself and wonder why you missed out!

The journey to Malindi started off well on Friday 1st July at around 9.00pm where the crew met at a restaurant in town to have a bite before the journey, it was a moment to laugh catch up quickly and also to meet the new members that were joining an LYP funky for the first time. Not long after that we headed to the departure point, Modern Coast (which l feel the need to applaud the team for being cautious with our dear lives) we boarded and our journey to Mombasa started at around 11pm (most of you must have been safely tucked in bed) and we arrived safely Saturday morning 6ish.

The LYP Pwani team never fail in planning and keeping the Nairobians on their toes. One Amos (thanks Amos) who always keeps a smile on his face picked us up and led us to Cool Breeze a motel where we were to freshen up and have breakfast courtesy of a lovely LYP lady l met for the first time Jacinta who works there (thanks girl), meanwhile other arrangements were being made by the Pwani team to have a stroll around town since we were meant to leave for Malindi around 12.30pm.

The beauty of this trip is that the Pwani team made sure we ate and traveled like Kings…personal cars/shuttles were at hand to ferry us from one point to the other..wakatupeleka the famous Fort Jesus and Mama Ngina Drive and as usual the Nairobi team took as many photos as their digital cameras could take.

There after we headed for early lunch (gosh! l had just had a filling breaky meal talking for everyone here). Tukaelekea a joint that cooks pwani dishes and boy did some of us eat… on the menu was Kuku Biryani, Biryani Mutton, Wali Mbuzi etc personally l could not walk after this and thank God my prayers were heard because shortly after, we were allocated cars to take us to our final destination Eden Roc Hotel Malindi, l think it took us kido 2 hours to get there and voila! EDEN ROC HOTEL we were.

Now please note, it was first week of July and there we were looking all hot, in shorts, short dresses, stylish shades and our hair let down (speaking for the ladies) as we found our way to the hotel reception one by one checked in and wah! HEAVEN IN JULY! As we headed to the suites my oh my the view of the private beach all blue and shinny caught my eye and l could not wait to freshen up and head there straight!

The rooms were well furnished and the rates hmm! (nitafute nitakuambia). As the sun set while strolling at the beach we knew we needed to store some energy for the night to be because…..wacha tu!.

The theme of entertainment that evening was Karaoke and guys were gearing up to sing the night away. Lets just say as usual the LYP ladies were dressed up for the evening mostly short black dresses (a lady’s must have) the night was magical under the stars and yes l will not let you forget the sound of waves from the ocean, karaoke was fun we danced in between and the Dj kept interrupting our dance moves on the floor by getting us back to singing. Summary Honey Hanie won the price for the best lady singer.(Congrats! girl though l don’t know what you got for that beautiful performance)

Way passed midnight LYP’s being fun oriented, went out of the hotel to sample some of the clubs namely Stardust and Club 28 hood and we were not disappointed at all FUN TILL WE DROPPED! truth is most of us did not sleep a wink.

Come Sunday morning breakfast and later lots of water aerobics in the pool and later some more team building activities and more splendor at the beach. We had lunch and not just lunch LUNCH! (my clothes still can’t fit days later) and well it was time to leave and the highlight of our departure was that we left a foundation for LYP Malindi and we will soon be back to launch after we met a few professionals that enjoyed the networking and family closeness that LYP’s demonstrated.

Our journey did not stop there we had a stop over and marveled at the Sabaki River and later at the KWS Marine Park and some of us that were bold took a boat ride it was already 5pm and we still did not want to leave. We traveled to Mombasa and for those of from Nairobi we boarded our bus at 10.45pm and yes l know what you are about to ask..we were working Monday morning but with all the memories in our head l do hope that you all gave your employer 100%.

Just to finish this off, on behalf of LYP Nairobi we say a big thank you to LYP Mombasa for the warm reception and amazing weekend holiday. Asanteni! For those who missed out hope the above made you ask yourself why you missed out…and yes you are welcome to join us on all our activities in the future

Always,

Judy Kaiguire

    hallo YPK,
I appreciate this great idea and effort of bringing young people and professions together. This is certainly a good platform of great things in the future and it also means raising a new generation with a difference in the society.
I would like to join this team but currently am not working.I have followed the events and activities you undertake but it left me thinking as if I would feel disadvantaged because of the contributions.
    Please advice.
