I was getting jitters as the day fast approached and the venue section on the advert still boldly read ‘to be confirmed’ it is not a very comfortable feeling…i almost engaged the flight gear ….but i held on.
You see, its such instances that test our tenacity and ability to think on our toes.
A few hours to the D day, i was sent the details i needed to complete the ad.
Venue: Sharif Nassir Foundation offices in Tudor…voila!!
The day was short and it was 5.30pm!! Reishi, Paul and I were to lead the delegation..or so we thought until we arrived to find earlier birds. Am always challenged by most LYPs, time management is their forte, of coz they’re others who are a work in progress in that area..i choose to keep them anonymous for now..
People were streaming in, with quite a number were getting stranded at the Poly gate..However, our ever punctual George was there to offer direction.
The hired event planner was setting up the place and we had to wait for a while to allow them skirt the tables and chairs for the function. At a different corner, some young guys were skewing marinated mutton and chicken while i also noted a few ladies in aprons transferring what looked like pilau from large sufurias into the buffet containers. Rotti getting packed at another end among other activities..watching this was a motivator in itself.
One hour later, the place was almost packed, the electricians were mic testing, Reuben and Reishi were testing the projector while Jacinta and Angela were filling the registration forms. We also had a few people at the gate ushering.
By the time the decor team was done, the ambience was nothing short of glamour..check out the pics.
Our host, Mr. Abdulswamad drove in, he held a meet the people session. He actually acted as the MC for the first session.
He elaborated his agenda for the Mombasa people putting much emphasis on what he has already accomplished so far in Mvita and Mombasa as a whole. He is eloquent and focused on the mandate ahead if elected to the political office.
The members were given a chance to ask questions, the questions ranged from how he intends to make Mombasa a business and professionals friendly city, a 24hr economy, security concerns, education among others. Every politician knows how to respond to questions but it is upon us to put them to task when they get to those elective posts.
Reuben presented on LYP Foundation. He packaged it so well that our host pledged to support us especially because of Evans Chiponda, one of our foundation beneficiaries in Lenana School where Abdul is an alumni.
The moment to sample the delicacies came…’it was an all you can eat buffet’
While we munched away, we were treated to goody bags each and entertained with recorded poetry and bango music that was composed in praise of our host.
We had a great evening.
Thanking everyone that attended and all that assisted in ensuring that everything fell into its rightful time and place.
Our next professional talk will be in March, after the elections.
Please practice and preach peace. Kenya ni yetu sasa na hata baada ya 4th March. We need it in one piece and peaceful. God bless Kenya.
God bless you all.
